Resources/Eating Disorders/Troubles Alimentaires.
August 10th, 2009 by lianeshaw

This page will be updated regularly and my goal is to have a variety of resources for young people, parents and teachers that I have found useful in the ongoing discussion about body image concerns and eating disorders.

The NEDIC site, already referenced in LINKS offers a wealth of pre-screened resources http://www.nedic.ca/giveandgethelp/additionalresources.shtml

The NEDA site, also referenced in LINKS, offers many resources, http://www.nationaleatingdisorders.org/information-resources/resources-and-links.php

SHEENA’S PLACE is a center that was created after the tragic death of 22 year old Sheena Carpenter from an eating disorder  in 1993.  Friends and colleagues of her mother, Lynn, wanted to create a place that would bring hope and help to people like Sheena.  The center  now offers a wide range of services for people with eating disorders and their families.  The site provides a number of excellent resources, including a listing of books, which is nice to see on a website. http://www.sheenasplace.org/index.php?page=suggested_reading

The Education and Outreach link is particularly useful, with a section specifically targeted to students.  http://www.sheenasplace.org/index.php?page=for_students

This site also tells the heartbreaking story of Lynn and her daughter in a way that brings the stark realities of eating disorders into focus. http://www.sheenasplace.org/uploads/press/aboutsheena.pdf

Mirror-Mirror

This is another site with lots of clear and direct information on ED.  It also provides some direct links to other sites that help with a variety of issues facing young people

    Hi
If you check out the Nedic site you will find a large resources section with information on eating disorders. They are careful to screen all of their resource offerings so they would be a reliable source of information for you.

here in Philippines, obesity is also becoming a problem. More and more children are getting obese due to a lifestyle that is not fully of physical activities. most kids just wants to watch TV, play computer games and surf the net.

    Hello
While I have not done much research in the area, as a teacher I know that obesity is also a problem here in Canada, for many of the same reasons you have mentioned. The whole weight issue seems to be equally of concern on both ends of the “scale”. Thank you for your comment
